THE WAVE

The wave that touches
my foot once
unable will I
to recognize it again.

(Malay poem "Ombak")

POET

To every
sad poet
even the falling leaf
is always beautiful.

(Malay poem "Penyair")

EMPTY HOUSE

One night, mother was restless
she asked: When will you
buy a house? Sad, but with
a smile, I promised, soon -
a year or two, the latest.  But
a month later she was gone,
regretting not able to see the house
of her child - her look was peaceful, while
her eyes were like holding a secret.

That is my only regret,
nothing else, that is my agony
forever.

(Malay poem "Rumah Kosong")

INSIDE THE LIBRARY

Inside the library
i was sleepy.
An elderly person
smiled and remarked:
No use
opening the book,
closing the eyes.
Is it not better
to close the book
and open the eyes?

The next day onwards
inside the library
i never
feel sleepy again
although the elderly person
for a long time
i do not see.

Inside the library
now i keep reading,
my eyes often
look at the chair of the elderly person
who is no longer there.

(Malay poem "Dalam Librari")
